Low Interest Loan to purchase assistive technology

Assistive Technology of Ohio and the State of Ohio Treasurer's Office each offer low interest loan programs to Ohioans with disabilities.

The Access for Individuals low interest loan program is provided by the State of Ohio Treasurer's Office through Fifth Third Bank. It is designed specifically for Ohioans with disabilities to acquire assistive technology for home, work or school. Borrowers can use the loan to purchase assistive technology, including, but not limited to, CCTVs, vehicle modifications, home modifications, equipment for blind and low vision, hearing aids, and more.

There is no specific minimum or maximum income requirement to participate. There are no loan origination fees. The loan program is not affiliated with any state entitlement program such as Medicaid or Medicare. Loan amounts start at $1,000, and can go to $10,000. Applicants not be eligible for the Access for individuals loan may be eligible for an Assistive Technology loan through Assistive Technology of Ohio. Applicants need only fill out one loan application to apply for both programs. This word document is a legal-size page (8.5 x 14). Make sure your printer has the proper paper size before printing.

What Can I Purchase With the Loan?

Either loan program finances the purchase of devices or adaptive equipment that assists a person with a disability to perform any function necessary to live, work or go to school. Items can include manual and power wheelchairs, alternative augmentative communication devices, hearing aids, Braille notetakers, Braille embossers, CCTVs, vehicle adaptations and home modifications. The loans WILL NOT finance homes or vehicles.

How Do I Qualify for a Loan?

If you are a resident of Ohio with a disability, or have a family member who is a resident of Ohio with a disability, you may apply for the loan. Loan approval is dependent on a demonstrated ability to repay the loan. Approval is conducted on a case-by-case basis.

What Is the Interest Rate on the Loan?

We cannot quote an exact interest rate, but it is a below-market rate. The final interest rate may depend on the applicant's credit history or other factors.
